This depends on where you choose to 'host' (store the files I create on their computer which is permanently connected to the Internet) your site. I offer 2 options:
Domain name and commercial web space
I can register your choice of domain name and transfer your site to a commercial host. I will choose the best deal available at the time and e-mail you to confirm before ordering. Expect to pay around £80 p.a.
Arrange your own hosting
With this option you're free to host your site wherever you like, including your I.S.P.'s free webspace. If you want a feedback form on your site your host must support either C.G.I. scripts or have a 'form-mailer' program installed. Three free I.S.P's which do are
Freeserve,
Free4all and
UKLinux.net (Don't be put off by the fact that UKLinux is aimed at users of the Linux operating system; it works just the same with MS Windows). I e-mail the files which make up your site to you; what you do with them after that is up to you! If you need help or advice getting your new website hosted, I offer free e-mail/fax support to clients. I have listed some of the possibilities below:
1. Use your existing Internet Service Provider (ISP).
Most I.S.P.s, even the free ones like
freeserve, include free web space you can use for your business. This is great but they have 2 minor disadvantages:
- Your site/email address has the name of your I.S.P. in it eg www.yourname.freeserve.co.uk
- If you change your I.S.P. you have to change your site/e-mail address, possibly confusing your customers.
To overcome these problems you could also register your domain name with a web forwarder - see below. I personally think that the free I.S.P.s are a good place to start. With the exception of getting your own domain name, they offer much the same service as a commercial host charging £150+ per year.
3. Set up a new account with a free I.S.P.
There's nothing to stop you opening another account with a free I.S.P. purely to host your new site on if your existing I.S.P. isn't appropriate. E-mail from your site could still be sent to your existing e-mail address. Note that free I.S.P.s require you to dial up their service at least once per month. You could use this option along with web forwarding (see below).
4. Use a web forwarding service.
A web forwarding service, such as the one provided by
simplynames, allow you to both have your own domain name
and still use free web space. After registering your domain name (I can do this for you or you can do it yourself), the web forwarder automatically redirects references to your domain name to your free web space and e-mail account, wherever that may be. Using this option together with free web space means you could have your own domain name for as little as £6 p.a.
If you wish me to arrange commercial hosting and domain name registration for you I will take care of everything. If you wish to arrange your own hosting, I will e-mail the necessary files to you so you can transfer them to your web space yourself, following the instructions of your I.S.P. - this is usually a simple procedure using a free F.T.P. program. If you need help, simply e-mail me for advice. I will then check to make sure that everything on your site is working correctly.
If it's just a minor text update like changing a price I will do this for a flat fee of £10 - just e-mail me the details.
For large sections of text or adding a new photo or graphic the price is £10 per item.
Once your site is up and running I will register it with the major Internet search engines (included in the price!). This means that anyone typing your company name or type of business into one of these search engines should be given a brief description of your business and its Internet address.
I also include special code in your web pages to help these search engines categorize your site.
You should do your part too by printing your website address on your stationery/adverts and by referring your customers to your site if they have Internet access.
By the combination of the information you give in the
order form, the promotional material you send me and by my e-mailing/faxing you with any queries.
The promotional material you send is key to the process as it enables me to use your logo and product information in creating your site.
You have probably already spent time and money in creating your brochures; why not increase the return on that investment by using them as the basis of your website? I can develop your site more quickly and thus keep the cost to you low.

JDM Netcode reserves the right to terminate the Design Contract for any reason and provide the customer with a full refund. If JDM Netcode fails in a substantial way to fulfil its obligations under this Design Contract you may terminate it.
